I’ve just added a “USB Storage” option to the Find-A-Router tool. This will allow searches for routers that have a USB port that can be used to connect a USB Hard Drive or flash drive etc. At this stage there’s not too many products with that feature but it seems to be gaining popularity. I certainly get plenty of enquiries for products with that capability anyway.
I’m also considering adding IPTV but I think by the time I get to that one it will be a fairly standard feature across the board anyway.
Another one could be IPv6 but because Internode is the only ISP offering it at this stage, the router manufacturers aren’t in a big rush to add it. The only routers I know supporting it so far are higher end products like McAfee, Cisco (not the cheap stuff so far), Nortel etc.
Any other suggestions are welcome.
I am babe in the woods with all this.
I need to connect 1 PCc to modem via a cable (USB or network) and provide a wireless connection to the modem from a PC in the next room. We have ADSL.
Will the Netgear DG834G 4 Port 802.11G Wireless ADSL Modem/Router do all that please ??
Hugh
Hi Hugh,
Yes, the DG834G will do that but there’s dozens of other products that will also do the same, and many with other features that might interest you too like VoIP, 802.11n wireless or VPN. If you’d like more info just email sales@ozcableguy.com or call us on 07 3325 5917 if you’d like to chat with someone before ordering.
Hi, I have been checking out your website and am most impressed by the information there. In amongst all that it would be a miracle if there were not one or two teensy weensy errors, and I’m relieved to find you’re not a miracle man. I looked up the D-Link DIR-615 and notice that you have a red X next to QoS. The manufacturer’s product web-page (for which you provide a handy link) however claims that the model does have QoS, in fact it raves about it for a whole paragraph. Over to you.
Thanks Jim. Fixed.
When I do the write-ups I go off the spec sheets and web pages for the products rather than delving right into the manuals and while the current web page does indeed mention QoS now, the previous web page didn’t. There were a few D-Link routers like this. I thought I got them all but this one slipped through somehow.
There is at least one affordable cable router available with IPv6 that should work with Internode’s IPv6 test service if combined with a DSL modem in bridging mode. It’s the D-Link DIR-825 which Ozcableguy sells for $193.60 The coming Draytek 2130 also supports IPv6. Others shouldn’t be far behind and I think it would be good to highlight IPv6 support anyway you can to raise its profile and assist in advancing its adoption.

With Optus and the NBN introducing higher speeds on the WAN interface how about including the specified WAN speed as well as verified WAN speed.
My current router claims up to 90Mbit/s WAN speed but with current firmware it fails to achieve close to this. On the Optus premium speed trial the router only achieved 41Mb/s while with a direct PC connection it was over 90Mb/s.
