The Linksys CIT400 is a cordless phone which comes pre-loaded with Skype software to allow users to make Voice over IP calls using Skype. It also allows the user to make and receive telephone calls over the normal (PSTN) telephone service. Click here for manufacturer’s specs. You will require a broadband connection and a router for it to work. Then just plug the base station into your Router's Ethernet port and then the phone line into your phone line socket. Manufacturer instructions were clear and concise. It looks and functions much the same as most other cordless phones so new users shouldn't be too intimidated. I found it quick and easy to setup and it performed to specification. It is user friendly and features are very similar to a mobile phone. The handset's colour display screen was clear and easily read. Voice quality was also very clear and it has a long battery standby time. Caller ID is featured on both Skype and PSTN calls. The handset also has a cool feature which shows when your contacts are online. I only had a couple of quibbles in that it requires a full 16 hours charging
before first use and it can't do 000 emergency calls. With an RRP of $181.50 I believe it represents a great investment to any Skype user. It offers all the features of a conventional cordless phone and incorporates a menu driven interface similar to a mobile phone. Netgear has a similar product in the SPH200D but is a little more expensive. The Netgear product has many of the same features. The only difference I could find was the fact that the Netgear has an additional cordless Skype handset which can be purchased separately. I give it four and a half out of a possible 5 stars.
