Comments: An update for the 7404VGPM to include support for 3G USB modems*. New feature added October 09 is the ability to convert LAN Port 1 to an Ethernet WAN port. Completely un-reliable. I have had 2 of these, the first one wouldn’t hold a connection for more than 2 minutes (it slowly degraded to that point) and the second one now will only occasionally see the USB 3G modem. Both of them would also freeze occasionally in a variety of different ways. It is plugged into surge protection ETC and in an air conditioned server room even! There have been multiple other problems also, occasionally the settings would reset on the first router. Billion won’t acknowledge any problems either. They said the 2 minute connection issue was Telstra resetting the connection, but the other router would hold a connection fine (in exactly the same location)!! Only get one if you want to sit there and turn the power switch off and on any time you want to use it. A reset seems to fix it every time. Sorry that this review sounds so bad but I have been trying to work with Billion for quite a while because the basic setup of the router is great, but to have 2 bad units out of 2.... maybe I am unlucky. |

Thanks, Yes I have seen that post before. While it is useful for using the device with a cable modem or similar it does not solve the VoIP issue with Billion products. What is needed is individual LAN/WAN switches on each of the `VoIP-user defined profiles’. We have now also purchased and installed our First 7404VGPX. So far so good. We ran into a couple of issues with Firewall & remote access etc but have since solved this. Funnily enough Billion refuses to acknowledge that the problem exists. LOLz. Someone else has also confirmed that the device will operate from 10-15VDC so should still be suitable for remote / solar installations. So all is looking good. Now if only Billion would switch to Linux for their OS. ! ;) .-.-. |

Replacement for the Billion 7404VGPM.
Probably the biggest disappointment is that Billion have gone away from 12VDC for the powering of the unit. (Now 15VDC). So for those using these for green related power setups you will have to run it through a wasteful power inverter. :(
Also there is still no option for indipendantly selecting WAN or LAN for the VoIP path on each profile. (Now over a year since this simple feature was originally requested by users).
The VoIP menus have changed enough that there will be a small learning curve but nothing dramatic.
New features include the ability to use some compatible 3G USB modems. (Nice!).
Thank you for adding the rip of the menu’s so promptly. As there is no better option we will continue to buy, recommend, and install these. Please encourage Billion to return to the 12VDC powering format for their future devices. .-.-. |
